In recent years, functional mushrooms have carried out a quiet revolution in neuroscience. The neuroscientist Andrew Huberman of Stanford publicly recommends lion's mane for cognitive support. The mycologist Paul Stamets, a TED speaker, has devoted his career to studying their potential. Tim Ferriss, the bestselling author on productivity, has added mushroom complexes to his daily protocol.
But the most important developments happened not in podcasts, but in laboratories. Scientists found that three specific mushrooms — lion's mane, cordyceps and reishi — act on three different mechanisms of how the brain and body work: neurogenesis (the birth of new neurons), cellular energetics (ATP synthesis) and adaptation to stress (cortisol regulation). Each of these mechanisms is critically important. Together they create a synergy that no single mushroom can provide.
Mind Code is not just a "mushroom complex." It is a precise formula: three extracts at clinically meaningful dosages, brought together in a single capsule for one purpose — so that your brain can work at the level it is capable of.
Lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus, Lion's Mane) is the only natural source known to science of two families of compounds able to stimulate the synthesis of nerve growth factor (NGF): hericenones and erinacines [1].
NGF is a protein on which the birth, growth and survival of neurons depend. With age, its production declines. This is one of the key reasons why, after 40, we start to notice that names slip from memory, focus scatters and "brain fog" becomes a familiar companion.
Lion's mane restarts this process. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study (Mori et al., 2009), people aged 50–80 who took 3 g of lion's mane a day showed a significant improvement in cognitive function on a mild-cognitive-impairment rating scale after 16 weeks. Improvements were recorded at weeks 8, 12 and 16 [2].
In a 2023 study (Docherty et al.) in healthy young adults, lion's mane improved working memory, reaction speed and a subjective sense of mental clarity even after a single dose. This matters: the mushroom works not only in cognitive impairment, but also in fully healthy people who want to raise their mental performance [3].
Lion's mane's bioactive compounds also stimulate the synthesis of BDNF — brain-derived neurotrophic factor, responsible for neuroplasticity: the brain's ability to form new connections and adapt to demands [4].
We have included 400 mg of lion's mane extract per serving — a high, clinically grounded dosage for daily use.
Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) is a mushroom that has been used for centuries in Tibetan tradition as a tonic for vitality. Modern science has explained why it works: cordyceps optimizes cellular respiration — the process by which every cell in your body converts oxygen into energy (ATP) [5].
Unlike caffeine, which works by blocking adenosine receptors (essentially fooling the brain), cordyceps acts at the level of the mitochondria. It raises the cells' real ability to produce energy. You are not "borrowing" alertness from tomorrow — you are increasing cellular efficiency.
Cordyceps' key bioactive compound is cordycepin (3'-deoxyadenosine). It is an analog of adenosine that takes part in ATP synthesis and in the regulation of inflammatory processes [6].
In a randomized clinical study (Ontawong et al., 2024), cordyceps significantly raised the activity of the immune system's NK cells (natural killers) in healthy adults over 12 weeks of use. This means a twofold effect: energy + immune support [7].
In experimental studies, cordyceps increased the time to physical fatigue, raised ATP levels in muscle tissue and reduced the buildup of lactic acid — a marker of fatigue [5].
Dosage in Mind Code: 300 mg of cordyceps extract — enough for daily energy support within a comprehensive formula.
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is called the "mushroom of immortality" in China and Japan — and that is not a marketer's metaphor but the literal translation of its name "lingzhi," used for more than 2,000 years in traditional practice.
Modern science has uncovered the molecular basis of this reputation. Reishi contains more than 400 biologically active compounds, chief among them the polysaccharides (β-glucans) and the triterpenoids (ganoderic acids) [8].
Reishi's β-glucans are powerful immunomodulators. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (Chen et al., 2023), 84 days of taking reishi β-glucans led to a significant increase in CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ T-lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells, and to greater NK-cell activity in healthy adults [9].
But reishi is not only about immunity. Reishi's triterpenoids act on the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis involved in regulating cortisol — the main stress hormone. Clinical data show that taking reishi extract at 1500 mg per day improves sleep quality and reduces anxiety levels [10].
This is exactly why reishi is the perfect complement to lion's mane and cordyceps: while lion's mane builds new neural connections and cordyceps charges the cells with energy, reishi protects the whole system from the corrosive effect of chronic stress.
Dosage of reishi in Mind Code: 300 mg of extract — an effective maintenance dose for daily use.
Buying three separate jars is expensive, inconvenient and inefficient. Three single-ingredient products (lion's mane + cordyceps + reishi separately) cost more, and you would have to work out the dosages yourself.
But the main reason lies in the biochemistry. The three mushrooms in Mind Code work on three different levels:
Level 1 — Neurogenesis (Lion's Mane): Builds new neurons and synaptic connections by stimulating NGF and BDNF. Result: mental clarity, memory, focus.
Level 2 — Cellular energetics (Cordyceps): Optimizes mitochondrial function and ATP synthesis. Result: steady energy without caffeine, physical endurance.
Level 3 — Adaptation to stress (Reishi): Modulates the immune response, lowers cortisol, improves sleep quality. Result: resilience to stress, recovery, immune support.
Without energy, the brain cannot build new connections. Without protection from stress, it destroys the ones already built. All three mechanisms must work at once. Mind Code provides exactly that.
